If you don’t yet know about Wellington Apothecary, then you are missing one of Wellington’s most beautiful spots. Located on Cuba Street, the Apothecary is an all handmade and natural, wellness store – it is divine! And even if you do know about this lovely spot, one thing you might not know is that also on offer is a beautiful massage service by the resident masseuse, Grace aka Grace Tailored Massage.
I have been longingly thinking about heading for a treatment with Grace for ages and was delighted to finally go, last week on a cold and rainy Wellington evening. It was beautiful, peaceful and heavenly so I am sharing it here.
I know it can be seen as one of those overindulgent things, to go for a massage, but I find so much benefit in this form of indulgence. Especially as I, as with so many of us these days, lead a lean forward life of the modern age!
Grace’s mini heaven space is nestled in a cosy room at the back of Wellington Apothecary that you wouldn’t even know was there on just visiting the store. The space is so tranquil filled beautifully with apothecary bottles, antique ornaments and flowers.
Grace welcomed me in from the rainy night with a hot cup of dandelion tea and a warm smile. We talked about what I wanted from the massage and it’s clear that Grace tailors each treatment to suit the personal needs of her clients. I felt completely at ease and like the whole experience was going to be about me and totally fit for purpose. It was.
Grace has been a masseuse for eight years and has been working her magic at Wellington Apothecary for one year. She definitely knows her stuff, but she’s not about overloading you with technical information, the time was about relaxing. The massage combines Swedish relaxation and deep tissue. There was a selection of three essential oils to choose from – I went for cardamon.
Although, we chatted to begin with, during the massage we didn’t, and this allowed me to get in the zone. I am very appreciative of this. There is nothing worse than having a masseuse who wants to chat with you the whole way through when you just want to relax! Although I’m sure if chatting was my thing, Grace would have obliged!
I won’t describe the whole massage in too much in detail as to spell it out feels slightly strange, but I can say that it was great. I was almost asleep at the end. My one piece of advice though, if going for a massage with Grace: don’t have much to do afterwards, go and have a lazy lunch or dinner and drink lots of water because you are going to be so chilled that being really active afterwards is not a great idea.
I had an hour with Grace and this was perfect but you can also go for more or less time, whatever suits you. Grace is at Wellington Apothecary on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. If you are thinking about going for some YOU time this winter, this is the way to do it. A local place with a cosy, wholesome vibe that smells like heaven, you can’t go wrong. It’s beautiful.
