Moon was actually the first place my boyfriend and I went for dinner when we arrived in Wellington two years ago and boy did we know we’d come to the right city. Low key in vibe, high key in Pizza: we love Moon! Sometimes accompanied by free live music and especially good on a Wednesday when pizza is $10. Don’t miss Moon’s Pizzas.

A local favourite for its always busy pizza slice kiosk on Courtney Place, Tommy Millions is a Wellington institution. Also serving up full-size pizzas with another outlet on Featherstone Street. Tommy Millions is popular for a reason, their slices are huge and especially delicious. I wrote a little something about them in my Top 5 Wellington Cheap Eats Post on account of their wonderful $5 slices so check that out too. Don’t miss Tommy’s, you’ll love their pizza!

There’s always got to be a Leeds street option so here we have Pomodoro. For their Take away and delivery only wood-fired pizza they are often cited as an absolute favourite among friends. They opened way back in 2000 (old for Wellington!) and are a sort of hidden gem. If you simply must match with booze, Golding’s Free Dive will allow punters to bring the pizza in. Perfect!

This lil Brooklyn joint is my local’s tip entry. Salty pidgin does the best BEST pizzas. They actually call them pide which is a Turkish style flatbread with toppings baked in a wood oven. This they are and delicious too. With elegant flavours like smoked fish and shaved fennel, these are classy pizza pides and not to be sniffed at. At a more reasonable price that the rest of the menu, Pides are the perfect way to experience Salty Pidgin (also featured in my Top 5 Wellington Restaurants Post) without breaking the bank.

Who doesn’t love a food truck and Busters is a food truck with a difference. Out in Lyall Bay next to the wonderful Parrott Dog Beer bar, Busters serves up pizzas with topping variations named after our favourite Wellington suburbs. Built from a purple coloured shipping container, the owners have added some creative flair to their version of a great Wellington pizza. Take it to the beach in the summer with your flagon of IPA and follow up with a Wooden Spoon Ice Cream Sandwich. Indulgence amplified!
