Top 5 is back! This time I wanted to talk about my 5 favourite brunch spots in Wellington. There is a lot to choose from so this was quite hard, but here are my favourites for some ideas on the forever quest to find the very best brunch in Wellington.
Prefab
Prefab on Jessie Street has an amazing atmosphere, delicious food and super friendly staff. The place is always really busy which is an ode to how good it is. The huge warehouse style cafe is the flagship café for ACME & Co. products and they do not disappoint. The coffee is some of the best in Wellington and the menu has firm favourites like smashed avocado on sourdough as well as specials like curried scrambled eggs and the famous acme sandwiches. Prefab is a Wellington institution and I love it!
Address: 14 Jessie St, Te Aro, Wellington 6011
Comes & Goes
If you haven’t tried it IRL yet, you will likely have seen Comes and Goes on Instagram as they have the most instagrammable brunch around. Waffles and toasts with elaborate and beautiful edible flower displays. I am a big fan of their breakfast pannacotta because who doesn’t love dessert for breakfast! Their coffee is fantastic too. It is well worth a trip to Petone to try Comes & Goes as well as just to get some great new insta shots! (jokes)
Address: 259 Jackson St, Petone, Lower Hutt 5012
Two Grey
I am a big fan of the breakfast at Two Grey attached to the Intercontinental Hotel. Although not really an independent local spot, this is quite a convenient brunch place for those working in the city and looking for a bite to eat before work. They have a great range and cater for most dietary requirements. I love their coconut milk lattes and Bircher Museli.
Address: Corner of Featherston and Grey Street, 2 Grey Street, Wellington 6011
Nīkau Café
I absolutely love Nīkau café, next to City Gallery. So much so that I bought my mum their cookbook for Christmas and included it in my Ultimate Wellington Gift Guide.
Nīkau does simple local ingredients so well and they always have something on the menu to suit my mood. Their scones are known to be some of the best in town and they are really well known for their kedgeree. Don’t miss Nīkau, its amazing.
Address: City Gallery Wellington, Te Ngākau Civic Square, 101 Wakefield St, Wellington 6011
Loretta
Loretta is the gem of Cuba Street in my eyes. Local, seasonal and simple ingredients done really well. I have mentioned them so many times in this blog (including in my Top 5 favourite restaurants post) Everything is served on Paul Melser ceramic plates which already wins me over but their food is the star of the show. Try their filter coffee, the beautiful beetroot frittatas or if you’re feeling it, their pies are amazing!
Address: 181 Cuba St, Te Aro, Wellington 6011
