It occurred to me recently that I am always asking people for their Air BnB reviews, yet I hardly ever make recommendations on here for others. Born from this is the start of my new lil series reviewing the great Air BnBs that I go and stay at. I am starting with one that I mentioned in my recent blog post about the Waikaremoana Track, the Beautiful, relaxing, Hot Tub apartment, Air BnB Havelock North.
I am only planning to review the best ones that I find and won’t throw any old ones up here – so perhaps I should call them recommendations rather than reviews!
So, starting with a bang with this AirBnB. We picked it as it was a convenient stopover before doing the Waikaremoana track, but it was so much more to it than that too.
Nestled in the back of the lovely Alison’s house about a 20 min walk or 5-minute drive from the center of Havelock North is this cozy little 2-bedroom retreat. The place is an entire unit and has 2 double bedrooms, a bathroom, a small kitchen with kettle and fridge, and a wonderful veranda with its own eco hot tub and sun loungers.
Aside from the convenience, the thing I loved about this spot was the beautiful décor that Alison has filled the place with. It is paired back and simple with beautiful wood finishes and artwork and ornaments collected through travels. I got so much inspo from just being there!
For those who are looking for a good night of sleep, the beds are huge and comfy with crisp white sheets and the bathroom is big and fresh, and clean with great shower pressure.
Now, the hot tub which let’s face it is the drawcard, is also incredible too. It’s a Kiwi Tub and it runs from the hot tap on the mains, so is lovely freshwater with no chemicals, kind of like a big outdoor hot bath. My friends and I enjoyed sitting in there with champagne and jumping in before bed to ensure a good night’s sleep. And I did look up Kiwi Tub afterward to see if I could put one somewhere at our house!
This Havelock North Air BnB is super private and the veranda outlooks onto a lush green garden so it feels very relaxed and you have your own little tranquil space. I would love to chill out there with a book on a sunny afternoon.
Alison was so friendly and greeted us when we arrived with her friendly dog but left us to our own devices otherwise.
The only downside would be that there is no kitchen, but this did not matter to us and we headed out for an amazing meal at Mary’s Wine Bar in the town which I would also highly recommend.
So, yes, this place to stay was really lovely if you are looking for a great Havelock North AirBnB, I suggest booking in!
